Swim Teacher Training
If this is something you would be interested in, we can train you here at The Water School. Speaking for all the team here the teaching of swimming is an extremely rewarding occupation and nearly always good fun! Just read the profiles of our team on this site to see what I mean.
Of course it is also a very responsible job as well. After all, you hold the safety of your pupils in your hands and the trust that is placed in you is a great privilege indeed. For these reasons it is very important that you should receive the very best training and qualifications. Here at The Water School we offer the Water Safety Ireland qualifications and both myself and Ciaran are qualified and experienced tutors.
So what do you need to start this journey? Well of course you need to be able to swim competently in several strokes. You should also have a passion for the joy of swimming and an empathic personality. While it is not a strict requirement of Water Safety Ireland, we strongly recommend that you first train as a lifeguard. Aa a minimum you will need to have the WSI Swimming Teacher’s Safety Award or it’s equivalent.
All the teachers at The Water School are qualified lifeguards or in training to qualify. Of course, as well as teaching swimming we are also teaching teachers but even our trainees are always under the supervision of a qualified teacher and lifeguard.
Most of our teachers here were at one time pupils themselves who then went on to train as teachers. This gives them a very good insight into the pupil’s experience and results in them becoming better teachers.
