About Us
Dedicated Teaching Pool
The Water School is a dedicated teaching pool. While such pools are commonplace in some parts of the world such as Australia and the US, they are very unusual in Ireland. Swimming pools in Ireland are usually found in leisure centres or council pools where they are often not designed for teaching.
Designed with Teaching in Mind
When designing and building the Water School we designed it with teaching in mind. Our pool is light and airy, with the water maintained at 30-31˚C and the air also warm. The varying depth of the pool allows us to teach all abilities in a comfortable open atmosphere. The lobby is designed so that the whole pool is visible and parents are welcome to sit and watch their children learn in normal times. (Covid-19 restrictions prevent this at present)
Teaching Methods
The pool is roped off allowing 4 teachers to work with their groups simultaneously. This means that siblings can learn at the same time regardless of their abilities. The teachers are all professionally trained and are also qualified lifeguards.
The advantages of this system are numerous; the teachers can work as a team and move pupils as and when they are ready without having to wait until the next course, and pupils can come to classes fully assured they are being taught and cared for by professional high quality instructors. The social aspects of learning in this environment mean that not only do pupils learn from their teacher but also from their peers and many friendships are formed during our classes.
Awards
When children progress from one level to the next they will receive a certificate which will outline the skills they have mastered. Certificates are not awarded just for participating.
